The first Bunny Car was innocently created in 1998. Carved from hardwood and riding on cast iron wheels, Bunny Car (1998) featured trompe l’oeil painting techniques to replicate distressed wood grain and the little face of the vehicle’s pilot – a 1950’s celluloid bunny mask. While spanning more than two decades, Bunny Cars have consistently represented a personal view that is at once bemused and horrified by the swift moving current of worldly events as they have impacted the human condition. Broadening the range of the Bunny Car series has involved the incorporation of several disparate motifs, including the Cyrillic alphabet, cast iron baby heads, and found mechanical objects. Recent Bunny Cars have displayed no reference to anything bunny-related and may not be Bunny Cars at all.
